FOR HIRE: Operations Manager - Production

SMPLFD Printing Co. is hiring a Production Operations Manager to join its Detroit-based production team.

The Operations Manager - Production will lead all production and operational activities, ensuring schedules, quality standards, job flow, and safety regulations are met. This role combines the responsibilities of production and operations management to ensure the smooth running of SMPLFD Printing. Strong leadership, technical proficiency, attention to detail, and effective communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities:

Management-

  • Lead and manage a team of screen printing operators, shop assistants, and seasonal part-time staff, ensuring that due dates are met and quality standards are maintained.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive production schedules, considering production capacity and customer requirements.
  • Lead daily meetings with production teams to review schedule adherence, address challenges, and solicit feedback for process improvement initiatives.
  • Utilize Printavo® shop management software to keep all jobs in the system updated and accurate and communicate with team members through status updates.
  • Coordinate with remote designer (GraphX Source) for digital mock-ups and artwork separation approval.
  • Manage, coordinate, and purchase materials for Out of House Jobs; ie: Embroidery, Digital Transfers, Custom wovens, etc.
  • Create and adjust staff schedules according to the demands of the production schedule.
  • Manage client relations by addressing issues throughout the production process, maintaining communication with customers, and serving as a liaison between clients and internal teams to convey feedback and requirements.
  • Conduct daily and weekly correspondence with company leadership and sales personnel.

Operations-

  • Oversee the calibration, function, and maintenance of printing equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Oversee the preventative maintenance and cleaning schedule for auto presses and the air compressor.
  • Ensure the organization and cleanliness of the dark room, including the operation and maintenance of the CTS Machine and Washout Booth, while monitoring and maintaining the quality of the screens reclaimed and burned.
  • Maintain a proactive presence on the shop floor, diligently scanning for any oversights or discrepancies, ie: pin holes, or ink smudges on garments.
  • Implement corrective actions to address quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Oversee inventory management, including sourcing, purchasing, and organizing printing supplies, inks, screens, and tools.
  • Conduct regular audits to identify discrepancies and forecast material needs.

Documentation-

  • Maintain proper labeling, storage, and maintenance of all screens, tools, inks, and solutions inside the shop.
  • Maintain documentation for inventory management processes and improve upon when necessary.
  • Proactively resolve production issues and maintain accurate client interaction records.

Human Resources-

  • Serve as the Human Resources lead for staff scheduling & time-off; payroll management; disciplinary actions & yearly reviews.
  • Develop relevant production reports and present to the Managing Partner of the business.

Qualifications:

  • Previous management or supervisory experience.
  • Strong leadership skills to motivate and inspire teams.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and industry compliance standards is preferred, but not required.
  • Technical expertise in screen printing techniques and equipment is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with Printavo and Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, but not required.
  • Face-to-face customer service and/or sales experience is a plus.
  • Comfortable working on your feet in hot/cold environments and able to lift 50+ pound packages.
  • Familiarity with the company's output, aesthetics, and ethos.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $45-55k per year salary.
  • Health benefits (company pays 65%).
